10 things i hate about quilting

Oh my, did I just write that?!?! Yes, I sure did!!! Some will, after reading this, be scratching their heads thinking to themselves then WHY does she even do it!!!

10 Things I HATE Like About Quilting

  1. PINS!!! – Do I need to say more? I use to just run them over and then I read that it wasn’t good to do that. Do I use pins? Yes, just when I really, really, really have too. Which is very seldom!!! I do use binding clips, does that count?
  2. Squaring off the blocks – what a time waster I thought – I didn’t care if my blocks were off or the points did not match. Most didn’t see the mistakes I made.
  3. Pressing  another one I thought that was a time waster. I used to just finger press and that was it.
  4. Taking My Time – I like patterns that look like I did a lot or that it took a lot of my time, but it actually didn’t. I guess the older I get the more I’ve learned to just take my time.
  5. Complicated Patterns – why would the ones who are making the patterns make it so hard for the rest of us? I’ve learned that if I just wait, that someone else will find an easy way of doing it. Or if I had time, I could too! Lol
  6. Agonizing Over Points That Don’t Match – I finally learned that its all about the 1/4” seam allowance and setting the seam that worked. If you have not conquered your 1/4” seam allowance, you should!! Your points will match if you understand and do this step correctly the FIRST TIME!!
  7. Choosing Fabric For My Projects – this is my least favorite part of quilting!!! I normally stick with 3 colors for the quilts that I do.
  8. Making Sure I Sewed That 1/4” Seam Allowance – I do have the 1/4” seam guide foot for my machine and I thought that would be it. BUT NO!!!!! That wasn’t good enough. I had to practice, play around til I got that accurate 1/4” seam allowance down pat! Believe me, take your time on this one!!!
  9. Clipping Threads OFF My Customer Quilts – please, please, please, if you send your quilt tops to a longarmer please please clip those threads off!!!! They can be seen under light fabrics or even worse get tangled up with the machine and we don’t want that issue.
  10. Using “Jack The Ripper” aka Seam Ripper – I hated this guy the most!!! It was taking my time away from the fun part of quilting…seeing the design emerge.

Now you are probably wondering, “What do I actually like/love about quilting?”

I find quilting to be a puzzle and I love doing puzzles.

Ok, I’m not the only one that hate things about quilting. What do you NOT like about quilting? What are some of your least fun things to do or use?
