3 Reasons To Chain Stitch
I like anything that makes my quilting or sewing much easier and I’ve found something that has worked for me for many years. I’m thinking that it will work for you too. Have you ever heard about “chain stitching”? You probably have if you are a crocheter, but this is for us quilters instead.
Chain stitching means that after you have sewn your squares together, then you (without removing that unit from the sewing machine), start sewing the next set of squares and you keep going until you are done. You will have a small piece of thread (see above picture) in between each unit of squares sewn. You will end up with one long chain of squares (in my case) sewn together.
I love to chain stitch because:
- Save on time – I’m always looking for ways to cut down my sewing time. This is awesome!!
- Save on threads – I love saving on money and this will help you do that too! You will use minimal threads using this technique. You don’t have to start and stop.
- Fabric doesn’t get pulled into the needle hole. When you are first starting you either need to hold on to your threads tightly or have a leader piece (a piece of scrap fabric that you start stitching on).
